About the Watch

The Patek Philippe Gondolo collection dates back to the late 1880s, named after a famous retailer in Rio de Janeiro named Gondolo&Labouriau with which the swiss watch manufacturer established business relations in 1872, soon resulting in timepieces designed exclusively for the Brazilian vendor - the Chronometro Gondolo, a collection of pocket watches. At the time, sales were so impressive in Brazil that "Patek" became a substitute for the word "watch" among residents. During the 1920s, the Chronometro Gondolo was also offered as a wristwatch, inspired by the Art-Déco of the roaring twenties by inserting the watches movement in a tonneau shaped case. The line was revived in 1993, capturing Pateks reinterpretation of one of the brands historical heritage pieces and giving Pateks "form" watches, a term used to describe timepieces that don’t have a round case shape, a new member.
